Inspired by the gloomy plot of American Horror Story’s first instalment — Murder House — the series of prints and collages I’ll Be Your Mirror reflects on each individual’s equal potential for good and evil alike. The ensemble also draws inspiration from Lady Gaga’s song Zombieboy.

The portrayal of Tate Langdon by Evan Peters left me wondering how easy it is for the spectator to fall in love with a character, whom you’re aware can be monstrous, upon a compelling display of sensitivity. Compassion seems to come easier when its subject is a fictional character, one that we seem all too ready to forgive for the most unspeakable things, for a variety of reasons — because we are fond of an actor or actress, because of their looks or even their compelling performances. I wonder why we aren’t seemingly ready to forgive the ones surrounding us for sometimes the littlest observation or error in judgment in that same way.
Created from a marriage of collage and drawing, these four visuals grievously tries to capture the sense of frustration one can feel when a loved one shuts them out of the darkest parts of their life in hopes of sparing them from the pain — but it all ends up hurting even more.
